I recently posted an assessment of my last “school” term, with the intent to return here with my fall curriculum.
In the intervening time, I brainstormed subject/assignment ideas during Morning Pages. However, none of it feels like it’s sticking. Neither does anything feel supportive rather than imprisoning.

Historically, I’ve never “signed up” for fall classes because it’s such a busy time with back-to-school (for the children) and then the holidays. Then it’s time to hibernate and survive SAD.
After sitting on this haziness for almost two weeks, I’ve resigned myself to allowing things to be more organic for the next few months. And I can always choose to impose more structure later if I feel too untethered.
So for now, I don’t have goals, so much as harbors between which* to travel (an analogy my friend Aly Prades recently brought up in a Voxer chat). I know there are good places for me to hang: the library, my sketchbook, the garden (or anywhere outdoors), my journal, literally ANY body of water.
(*the irony is that I googled the following: “it’s okay to end sentences in prepositions but what if i don’t want to” because I heard recently that we no longer need to worry about this??)

Use my hand-drawn worksheet to brainstorm subjects you want to deep-dive on, or mark out things you HAVE to do. It’s also fun to think not just about assignments but also about relevant field trips, book lists, new supplies, etc.

I’d love to know what you are up to this fall, what you’re wanting to learn about, what you want to continue doing, what’s not working, what you’re reading (or re-reading! ;))

Lisa, your sketches are delightful! And I love using the harbor metaphor to think of areas you can keep returning to. You can’t go wrong with art and time outside and water! My biggest harbor/study area is my new job, and I also want to plunge/paint/poem weekly.
