Some bullet points about my first sketchbook
Since starting my sketching journey in 2024 with the #100dayproject, I’ve seen so many people’s sketchbooks that I loved.
I wanted to make a cool sketchbook, too!
But I felt a lot of pressure to make each spread look “Instagram worthy”.
Which ended up with me making not a lot of art.
But now I’m reframing all this and trying to make Instagram worthy of my “bad” drawings.
Because bad drawings are the only way I’ll ever get to good drawings.
Even though I’m not officially doing a 100 Day Project, I am using the principle of sharing my art whether I think it’s ready or not, and focusing on building a body of work. I often wish other people shared their process (read: their humble beginnings), not just their finished products.
I want to grow as an artist, but I need to grow in my OCD recovery. My obsession with perfection keeps me trapped in my head. Exposure Therapy for perfectionism is doing things badly and letting them be.
So here’s my sketchbook, just as it is.
And also, this video itself is an imperfect work. I am learning how to video edit. It’s okay that I spent a million hours on it and still want to improve it more before sharing it with the world.
Thanks for being here!
I hope my next one doesn’t take two years to complete. :)
Thank you, Michelle Reeves, for first inspiring me with your sketchbook tour.
